DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an intern in the field of auto mechanics, your main duties will involve assisting in the repair and maintenance of various vehicles, including cars, trucks, and tractors. You will also be responsible for repairing and maintaining equipment such as sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. In addition, you will be involved in tasks such as replacing shock absorbers, transmissions, hour meters, clutches, brakes, and other parts. Furthermore, you will perform tasks like wheel balancing, checking alignment, making minor body repairs, and testing alternators and electrical components. You will also contribute to a preventative maintenance program for vehicles, equipment, and parts, as well as perform automotive mechanical diagnostics, tune-ups, and tire changes. Additionally, you will handle tasks like repairing and replacing engine sub-assemblies, adjusting cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, and air-conditioning components, and maintaining fuel, brake, steering, and transmission systems. Moreover, you will be responsible for repairing or rebuilding construction or shop equipment and assisting in identifying equipment problems using diagnostic equipment and procedures. Lastly, you will also be responsible for repairing and maintaining motorized hand equipment such as chain saws, compressors, jack hammers, tampers, hand mowers, trimmers, routers, patching machines, and heating kettles. If necessary, you will report any missing parts or broken equipment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location.
  • This internship will take place in the summer 2024 and continue through the 2024/25 school year.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years of age.
  • You must be a junior or senior enrolled in High School during the 2024 - 25 school year.
  • You have completed sophomore year of high school at time of hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be a vo-tech (career and technical center) student in an approved cooperative vocational program that has prepared the student for the duties and description of work described in this posting.
  • Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
